Dolphins often can be sighted from the Fripp bridge and the 18th hole of Ocean Point Golf Links. Fripp's wildlife population includes deer, raccoons and alligators. Birds include osprey, heron and egrets. The Audubon Club maintains a trail to view wildlife, plants and birds.

During the 17th century, King Charles of England deeded the island to Captain Johannes Fripp,

Development of Fripp began in 1961. Before then, the island served as a favorite hunting and fishing spot. In 1963, the half-mile access bridge was built to connect Fripp and Hunting Island. By 1965, Ocean Point Golf Links had opened and the first homes had appeared.

The Land
Fripp Island is a private, 3,000-acre residential and resort island. The island is located 19 miles east of historic Beaufort, South Carolina. It measures 3 1/2 miles in length and is about one mile wide at its center. It is the most seaward of the beautiful Carolina Sea Islands.
